Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 17, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how the Sound Icon application for macOS (the "App") handles information. The App is published by Ivan Ivanenko ("we", "us"), who is the data controller for the purposes of this policy. It applies to the App and to soundicon.app.
Summary: Sound Icon collects no personal data, has no accounts, no servers, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party SDKs. Everything it stores stays in the App's own sandbox container on your Mac. Its App Store privacy label is "Data Not Collected". Subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple; we never see your payment details or your identity.
1. Information We Do Not Collect
Sound Icon does not collect, transmit, sell, rent, or share personal data. Specifically:
- We do not collect names, email addresses, account identifiers, or any other information that identifies you.
- We do not collect device identifiers, IP addresses, or approximate or precise location.
- We do not track your usage, audio device choices, music files, or media playback habits.
- We do not use analytics, advertising, attribution, or crash reporting services that send data off your Mac.
- We do not track you across apps or websites owned by other
companies, and we do not share any data with data brokers. The App declares
NSPrivacyTracking = falseand an empty tracking-domain list in its privacy manifest. - We operate no servers and have no backend that could receive your data.
2. Data Stored Locally on Your Mac
The App saves its settings inside its own sandbox container. This data never leaves your device, is never transmitted to us or to anyone else, and is not accessible to other apps.
| What is stored | Why | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Starred audio devices and their names | To offer quick-switching between your favourite devices | App preferences (local) |
| Custom icon choices per device | To show your chosen SF Symbol for each device | App preferences (local) |
| Security-scoped bookmarks to music folders and files you select | So the local player can reopen your playlist after a restart | App preferences (local) |
| A cached yes/no flag for subscription status | So the App does not misreport your subscription while it waits for the App Store to answer on launch | App preferences (local) |
The App's privacy manifest declares its use of UserDefaults under reason
code CA92.1 — access limited to data written by the App itself.
3. System Permissions and Why They Are Requested
Microphone (audio input)
macOS treats reading and changing the level of an audio input device as microphone access, so the App holds the audio-input entitlement. Sound Icon uses it only to list input devices, switch the default input, and adjust or mute the input level. The App does not record, listen to, buffer, analyse, or transmit any audio.
Accessibility
If you enable the media key features, macOS asks you to grant Accessibility permission in System Settings. This lets the App observe the media keys (play/pause, next, previous) so it can route them to the right player. Key events are handled in memory at the moment they occur, and are never logged, stored, or transmitted. The App does not read keystrokes from other applications, and you can revoke the permission at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility.
Files you choose
The local music player only ever sees the folders and files you explicitly pick in the macOS open panel, and it opens them read-only. It does not scan your disk and cannot access anything you have not selected. File contents are decoded for playback on your Mac only. Track names appear in the macOS Now Playing panel while the App is playing, which is a standard system integration and stays on your device.
Network access
Sound Icon has no features that require the internet, and does not send your data anywhere. It holds the network client entitlement solely so that macOS and StoreKit can reach the App Store to load subscription prices, complete purchases, and verify entitlements. Those connections are made by Apple's frameworks to Apple's servers, not by us.
4. Purchases and Subscriptions
Sound Icon Pro subscriptions are sold and processed exclusively by Apple through the App Store using StoreKit.
- We never receive, see, or store your name, Apple Account, email address, billing address, or payment card details.
- What the App receives from StoreKit on your device is limited to product information (plan names, prices, trial eligibility) and a signed transaction that says whether a subscription is currently active. Only the resulting yes/no state is kept, locally.
- Apple's handling of your purchase is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy and the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.
- Subscription terms, renewal, and cancellation are described in our Terms of Use (EULA).
5. Third Parties
The App bundles no third-party SDKs, analytics libraries, advertising frameworks, or crash reporters. Because we collect no data, we have no data to disclose or transfer to third parties, and no service providers process personal data on our behalf. The only third party involved in your use of the App is Apple, in its role as the App Store operator and payment processor.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
We retain nothing, because we receive nothing. The App's local settings remain on your
Mac for as long as the App is installed. To erase them, drag Sound Icon to the Trash and
delete its container folder at
~/Library/Containers/librera.SoundIcon. Removing the App does not cancel an
active subscription — cancel it in your Apple Account settings, as described in the
Terms of Use.
7. Children
Sound Icon is a general-audience utility. It is not directed at children, contains no content aimed at children, and collects no personal data from anyone, including children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction).
8. Your Rights
Privacy laws such as the GDPR (EU/EEA and UK) and the CCPA/CPRA (California) give you rights to access, correct, delete, and port your personal data, and to object to or restrict its processing, as well as the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them. Because we do not collect or process any personal data about you, we hold nothing to disclose, correct, export, or delete, and we sell and share nothing. All data the App creates is under your direct control on your own Mac and can be deleted as described in section 6. You may still contact us with any privacy question, and you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
9. International Transfers
No data is transferred out of your device by the App, so no international transfer of personal data takes place. Data associated with your App Store purchase is handled by Apple under its own policies.
10. Security
The App runs inside the macOS App Sandbox with the minimum entitlements it needs, is distributed signed and notarized through the App Store, and stores its settings in a container protected by macOS. Because nothing is transmitted, there is no server-side store of your information that could be breached.
11. Changes to This Policy
If we change this Privacy Policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page, and — for material changes — describe them in the App's release notes. Our commitment to a non-tracking, local-first application remains our priority.
